1/6/2023 0 Comments Iggy pop blah blah blah![]() ![]() Synth heavy songs like “Fire Girl” featured an industrial sound, not unlike Front 424 or Blancmange.īlah Blah Blah is one of my favorite post Berlin albums from Pop. Pop’s vocal style, a elegant variation of David Bowie or Brian Ferry fit well with the new material. In a testament to the versatility of Blah Blah Blah, traditional rock stations might play “Cry For Love” while top 40 and college outlets covered everything else. Another of the albums singles (and my favorite) “Isolation” continues with the retro sound of the early ’60s, but with the big echo chambered sound that was popular in the mid ’80s. Despite it’s slick modern sheen, the album’s most successful tract was the rockabilly styled “Real Wild Child”. ![]() Pop had gone through a lot, but was as fit looking as ever as he paraded about shirtless in his signature look for promotional material for his ninth album.īlah Blah Blah was strictly a modern slick new wave pop album much like Bowie’s Let’s Dance, but without the R&B overtures. To return the favor, Bowie produced Pop’s comeback album. Bowie has used a few songs that he and Pop wrote together in 1977 for The Idiot and Lust for Life on his own Let’s Dance and later Tonight. Even Andy Warhol himself proclaimed in an interview that Pop “should have been big! He’s that good”.īut good friends never let each other down, so just when David Bowie’s career was again taking off with the slick Lets Dance, Bowie reached out to his old friend Iggy who had by the ’80s cleaned himself up and was ready again for the spotlight. Iggy Pop on the other hand would continue to languish in the perogatory of high critical praise and low record sales. When the two decided to work together in Berlin in the ’70s, they created some of the most innovative and interesting music in either one’s catalog.Īs time passed, Bowie got considerable fame for his ability to turn those innovations into chart topping pop songs. Both were experimental in their approach to rock, Pop with punk and Bowie in what would become alternative rock.
